My experience with teleworking in the Group When I was offered to join maeva.com in 2010, I had already been working from home for two years. I had worked in Grenoble before moving to the Saint-Etienne region and I wanted to continue working 100% remotely, from home, which suited me well.
What about my life as a teleworker? At maeva.com, I am in charge of integrating our partners’ offers. Within the IT team, I am not an exception: the head of the Department works from Lyon and I have at least two colleagues who work remotely, from home or from an office.
With today’s means of communication, it is very easy to set up meetings, to call each other, to exchange ideas in our discussion groups. Of course, we don’t get together with our colleagues at the coffee machine, but we are very close, we make up a real team and we meet regularly, about once a month, for meetings at the head office, which are always convivial moments. It’s an opportunity to have lunch together and to meet colleagues we only know by email.
In order to be at the same rhythm and to be able to work together, between IT specialists but also with our colleagues from other departments, we have kept classic office hours. In fact, I just live differently from many employees: my daily work environment is at home, where I find peace, concentration and efficiency. The ‘office life’ is a bit of an exception, when I meet my colleagues in Paris!
To me, “getting back to basics” means…? Staying close to my family, keeping the links with my parents. The choice of working from home contributes to this, that’s for sure. Moreover, when I see the holidaymakers in our sites, I realize that this is true for many people. Family is the most important thing.
“Then I was asked to be an ambassador for the Group Foundation. I’d always wanted to be involved with an association, and now it was possible to do so in a corporate context.”
“I’m totally committed to my work, but I have the freedom to disconnect completely, and I can do so because I work with my teams and management in a framework of trust.”
“It’s a real vote of confidence and it’s also very rewarding to be approached internally for a job you’d never thought of.”
“I have a great deal of freedom and autonomy to develop and manage the countries for which I’m responsible. […] What I like here is the team spirit. If you need support, you’ve got it.”
“Although maeva is growing fast, we still operate like a small organisation: everyone knows everyone else, we work in close proximity and flexibly”
“In practical terms, we can’t do anything without our teams. So it’s very important to support your teams by being close to them and on the ground.”
“When I started here as a receptionist, I saw how the hotel worked at every level. […] The work of each and every one of us makes this site a success.”
“Bringing joy is what our job is all about. But what we do for these struggling families is very powerful.”
“Today, Mission Handicap is very active and very present in the company and thanks to it I feel protected, supported.”
“When I returned from maternity leave, I had the choice between two jobs. I wanted to evolve and I also wanted a different rhythm, not to work on weekends, in particular, to spend time with my daughter.”
